Commit 53b94fad58 ("binarybuffer: Fix str_to_buf() parsing
function") introduces the helper command_parse_str_to_buf() to
parse as number a string on TCL command-line.
The parameter 'radix' can specify the base (decimal, octal,
hexadecimal, or auto-detected).
TCL is supposed to use decimal numbers by default, while octal and
hexadecimal numbers must be prefixed respectively with '0' and
'0x' (or '0X').
This would require the helper to always run auto-detection of the
base, thus always set the 'radix' parameter to zero. This makes
the parameter useless.
Keeping the 'radix' parameter can open the door to future abuse of
TCL syntax, E.g. a command can require an octal value without the
mandatory TCL '0' prefix; the octal value cannot be the result of
TCL expression.
To prevent any future abuse of the 'radix' parameter, drop it.

The function str_to_buf() was too benevolent and did
not perform sufficient error checking on the input
string being parsed. Especially:
- Invalid numbers were silently ignored.
- Out-of-range numbers were silently truncated.
The following commands that use str_to_buf()
were affected:
- reg (when writing a register value)
- set_reg
- jtag drscan
This pull request fixes that by:
- Rewriting str_to_buf() to add the missing checks.
- Adding function command_parse_str_to_buf() which can
be used in command handlers. It parses the input
numbers and provides user-readable error messages
in case of parsing errors.
Examples:
jtag drscan 10 huh10
- Old behavior: The string "huh10" is silently
converted to 10 and the command is then executed.
No warning error or warning is shown to the user.
- New behavior: Error message is shown:
"'huh10' is not a valid number"
reg pc 0x123456789
Assuming the "pc" is 32 bits wide:
- Old behavior: The register value is silently
truncated to 0x23456789 and the command is performed.
- New behavior: Error message is shown to the user:
"Number 0x123456789 exceeds 32 bits"

Commit ea2e26f7d5 ("jtag: rewrite jim_jtag_configure() as
COMMAND_HANDLER") breaks the option -event if it is the last of
the command line.
This can be tested, even without any device connected, through:

wrong # args: should be "-event <event-name> <event-body>"
Fix the check on available arguments after -event.

Some devices with an internal multi-tap JTAG router require a vendor
specific bypass instruction to bypass the master TAP when addressing
slave taps internal to the same device. On these devices the standard
bypass instruction bypasses the whole device.

It's customary to use [] brackets to mean the argument is optional, but
drscan requires at least one pair of "num_bits value" so change it to ().
In common regular expressions * means 0 or more, and + means 1 or more,

The same code is currently used for commands 'jtag newtap' and
'swd newdap' (plus dapdirect versions), but for SWD case the code
skips the parsing of the command line as not every flag is used.
This has the drawback that syntax errors get unchecked.
Move the check about the transport so the command line get always
parsed even when the corresponding flags are not useful.

Replace the FSF boilerplate with the SPDX tag.
The SPDX tag on files *.c is incorrect, as it should use the C99
single line comment using '//'. But current checkpatch doesn't

Some CPU wrongly indicate the bypas bit in the codeid.
It's the case of the NanoXplore NG-ULTRA chip that export a
configurable (and potentially invalid) ID for one of

The documentation of Jim_SetResultFormatted() reports that the jim
objects passed as arguments would be freed if have zero refcount.
Remove the useless Jim_IncrRefCount()/Jim_DecrRefCount().
Remove the dangerous Jim_FreeNewObj() that should trigger a double
free(). Not tested due to lack of aice adapter.

Now that all commands are executed through the common handler
command_unknown(), the message about command execution is logged
by command_unknown(). There is no need, for "native" commands
(.jim_handler) at root level to log the message (again) by itself.
Remove calls to script_debug() apart from command_unknown().
Make script_debug() static as only used in command.c.

While still keeping the tree of struct command, stop registering
commands in jim by the root "word" only.
Register the full-name of the command and pass as private data the
struct command of the command itself.
Still use the tree of struct command to un-register the commands.
Some "native" commands (.jim_handler) share the same handler, then
the handler checks the command name to run the right code.
Now argv[0] returns the full-name of the command, so check the
name by looking in the struct command passed as private data.

While loading to flash with debug level at least 3,
OpenOCD tries to print the whole loaded bitstream.
This will be very-very-slow due to implementation of
conversion from buffer to string.

The Jim_SetResultFormatted() frees jim object earlier and the
Jim_FreeNewObj() does it second time. It breaks the memory heap.
To avoid it the Jim_IncrRefCount() + Jim_DecrRefCount() should be used
instead of the Jim_FreeNewObj() call.

If the function parse_u64() fails, we jump to return, thus leaking
the memory just allocated in 'v'.
Issue identified by clang.
Move earlier the call to parse_u64() and the associated test,
before memory allocation.
While there, fix a possible NULL pointer dereferencing in case the
calloc() fails, by testing for allocation failure.

then from the content of argv[0]:

Remove the command name from the arguments of the function

The script checkpatch available in new Linux kernel offers an
experimental feature for automatically fix the code in place.
While still experimental, the feature works quite well for simple
fixes, like parenthesis.
This patch has been created automatically with the script under
review for inclusion in OpenOCD, using the command:
find src/ -type f -exec ./tools/scripts/checkpatch.pl \
-q --types SIZEOF_PARENTHESIS --fix-inplace -f {} \;

Writing bits to an uninitialized buffer generated false warnings.
Zero buffers before setting them by buf_set_u32|64()
(do it only if bit-by-bit copy loop is used,
zeroed buffer is not necessary if a fast path write is used)

Replace the JTAG transport specific command with a more generic
one. Deprecate "jtag_reset" and update the documentation.
While there, fix an error in the documentation, where the command
"jtag_reset" was used in place of command "reset_config".

The TCL command "return" always returns error code JIM_RETURN, to
indicate that the effective error code and message are elsewhere.
In the current implementation, the caller of jtag's event only
checks for return code JIM_OK and considers any other value,
including JIM_RETURN, as an error condition.
It can be tested running openocd on a jtag target and adding a
jtag event "setup" with a single line "return", e.g.
openocd -f board/ti_cc3200_launchxl.cfg \
-c 'jtag configure cc32xx.cpu -event setup return'
to get the message:

Modify jtag_tap_handle_event() to detect the specific return value
of the "return" command and to test the real error code that is,
eventually, specified to the TCL "return" command.

To prepare for handling TCL return values consistently, all calls
to command_print/command_print_sameline should switch to CMD as
first parameter.
Change prototype of command_print() and command_print_sameline()
to pass CMD instead of CMD_CTX.
Since the first parameter is currently not used, the change can be
done though scripts without manual coding.
This patch is created using the command:
sed -i PATTERN $(find src/ doc/ -type f)
with all the following patters:
